What Is A Vape Mouthpiece?
A vape mouthpiece is the part of a vaporizer where your mouth makes physical contact in order to take a draw. Many vapes have mouthpieces built in, while others have the option to vape with or without a mouthpiece.
Why Buy A Vape Mouthpiece?
A vape mouthpiece can help keep your mouth from making contact with a hot device, make it easier to take a pull, and can give the vapor more time to cool before it reaches your mouth. Replacing the mouthpiece can also be an option if you prefer to not clean your vape mouthpiece. Interchangeable vape mouthpieces also make it easy to share a vaporizer with friends.
In general, it's always a good idea to have multiple vape mouthpieces for your device. It's a good safeguard should you damage your mouthpiece, like by dropping the device. It's also a good option if the mouthpiece has become so clogged or dirty that it's easier to simply replace it than attempt to clean it.
Vape mouthpieces for the Firefly 2+ are easy to order and are very budget-friendly, making it easy to have several spares.
How To Choose A Mouthpiece?
For many devices, you won't have multiple options for mouthpieces. For example, the Firefly only has one vape mouthpiece design. For other devices that have multiple mouthpiece options, think about what you like and don't like out of a vaping experience. For example:
- Long mouthpieces can help cool down vapor and can distance your mouth from a hot device.
- Short mouthpieces can be more discreet for public use.
If you like the idea of having a removable vape mouthpiece, this may guide your overall search. As mentioned, not all vapes have mouthpieces that can be removed, and even fewer have multiple mouthpiece options. Be sure to consider this before making a purchase!
How to clean your vape mouthpiece?
How you clean your vape mouthpiece will vary from device to device. In order to clean the vape mouthpiece on the Firefly 2+, there are only a few easy steps to follow:
- Make sure the device has cooled to a point where components can be safely handled.
- Gently pull the mouthpiece from side to side until it loosens and can be removed.
- Using a toothpick or small cleaning device, and remove any debris that might be caught in the mouthpiece.
- After the mouthpiece has been cleared, firmly snap the mouthpiece back into place.
Not all mouthpieces are as easy to clean as the Firefly's. If easy maintenance is a priority for you in a weed vape, you'll want to make sure to consider cleaning the vape mouthpiece and not just the heating chamber.
Do You Need A Mouthpiece To Vape?
Many devices don't require a vape mouthpiece in order to take draws, so it will come down to your specific vaping preferences. The Firefly 2+ does require a mouthpiece and customers will find that using a vape mouthpiece makes it easier to take longer, deeper draws.
Generally, most devices benefit from the use of a vape mouthpiece, and this is particularly true of weed vapes. The heating chambers on weed vapes get hot (a lot of surface area is heated to produce vapor from bud), and that heat can slowly travel up the device towards the vapor path. If you're not using a vape mouthpiece, it's possible for a device to become too hot to use.
You likely don't need to invest in expensive, custom vape mouthpieces when you get started with a new device. However, having a few spares in addition to what's connected to your device is recommended.

Mouthpieces may need reengineering
I've had a FF2 and 2+ and multiple mouthpieces. I love the device, but it seems the mouthpieces don't seat solidly and tend to fall or easily be knocked out. If the mouthpieces are intended to snap fit into the sides of the FF, they are not wide enough. I've also tried jamming the mouthpiece into the FF, but that seems to restrict the airflow, which is why I bought the FF2+ in the first place. Otherwise, everything else about the FF is first rate.
