Firefly Vapor for Creativity

Does Cannabis Really Make You More Creative?

Weed and creativity seem to be synonymous with each other. In fact, famous musicians, artists, and writers throughout history have been known to use cannabis as a way of enhancing their creativity. If you look back at popular culture throughout the years, you’ll start to sense a common theme of musicians or artists smoking a joint while working their magic over the last several decades, before legalization was upon us.

Set & Setting: Mindfully Creating a Great Cannabis Experience

The effects of a given cannabis strain, as well as the amount and method by which you consume, are only part of your experience. Being conscious of your mindset (Set) & physical and social environment (Setting) is a key part of a mindful approach to cannabis consumption. Setting an intention and staging the right environment before you consume cannabis help you achieve your desired outcomes and fulfilling experiences.

Fueled By Firefly Artist: Ben Canales

Who wouldn’t want to spend a night with a Firefly vaporizer looking up at the stars? This Fueled by Firefly project with Portland, Oregon star photographer Ben Canales was a match made in the cosmos!  Fueled by Firefly is an artist series started by Firefly Vapor to celebrate the intersection of art, technology, and culture. At Firefly, we see ourselves as more than a technology company. Our innovation is fueled by our active participation in a wide community of designers, developers, and creators. Firefly strives to stimulate creativity and conversations about the concepts that inspire us. And, wow, does Ben‘s work inspire us! Ben talks about why the stars are his ever-burning muses: As our city lights spread blocking the view of stars, and app notifications replace the constellations humans used to point and share at night; we- as a people, as a species- need the stars more than ever. We’ve lost context of reality; of big-picture, universe-sized reality. Out under a bajillion twinkling stars, the worry of are you making enough money becomes… silly. Stress of our loud lives fades, and a quiet calm settles from the top down and in out. We feel silent whispers that we belong to something bigger, and life is entirely what we dare to make it. And, so important now- we’re reminded that gender, race or religion are barriers that mean nothing to this greater reality. We are one people, crowded on a planet-sized ship, floating through this grand universe- all looking up and out at the same beautiful night sky.

Asher Roth & Firefly Vapor: “Rap Life”

Musical artist and rapper Asher Roth made this super-chill video about his Firefly.  We love the original song (and you can’t hear it anywhere else!). “I’ve got a vision for us.  It’s lovely.  It’s lovely….” Asher Roth is best known for his single “I Love College.”  He has since released a few different albums, and now works as an independent artist under his own label Retrohash.  He’s a proud cannabis user and has been quoted about his cannabis use, saying “I honestly don’t believe [marijuana] is the gateway drug, because I use it and I’ve never done anything else… I’m trying to be open about my pot smoking.” And it seems to be helpful with creativity too!  Keep up the good work Asher!

Making Music from Plants

When Firefly launched our Firefly V.2, we had a SF launch party with upwards of 3oo people in attendance. The best part of the night for many of us was getting the chance to see Mileece I’Anson’s music installation in our conference room, where she hooks plants up to electrodes in order to modulate the electromagnetic current generated by them. Yes, that really did happen. In our conference room..as if you needed more proof that Firefly creates magic. ???? From an earlier Motherboard article on Milceece’s work: Channeling a plant’s sentience into an instrument is no obvious feat. Mileece’s background as an audiophile and programmer dovetailed to turn a garden into an organic medium for music. She pulls this off by attaching electrodes to leafy limbs, which conduct the bio-electric emissions coming off living plants. The micro-voltage then gets sucked into her self-authored software, turning data into ambient melodies and harmonic frequencies. It’s simply not enough for these green little squirts to just spit out noise. All this generative organic electronic music must sound beautiful, too. As a renewable energy ambassador, Mileece’s larger goal behind her plant music is to enhance our relationship with nature. And if plant music can have a pleasing aesthetic articulation then hopefully we all can give a greater damn about our environment. While some may see the paradox in an organic medium generating electronic music, Mileece does not. She sees this as a symbiotic relationship, a vital one, and one that hints to a larger relationship she’s been trying to unify, which is that between humans and nature.
